₹75,000 Crore. 1,720 Armoured Platforms. 1,200 MSMEs - One of India's biggest defence industrial opportunities has just arrived. The Indian Army has announced a five-year modernisation and restoration pipeline worth over ₹75,000 crore — signalling a major shift in how India's mechanised forces will be sustained and upgraded. Instead of focusing solely on procuring new platforms, the Army has chosen to extend the operational life of its existing armoured fleet through comprehensive upgrades, lifecycle restoration, and capability enhancement.
Programme Breakdown: Overall Investment: ₹75,000+ Crore planned over the next five years
(a) T-72 Ajeya Fleet: 790 Main Battle Tanks | Estimated value: ₹13,000+ Crore
(b) T-90 Bhishma Fleet: 200 Main Battle Tanks | Estimated value: ₹56,000+ Crore
(c) BMP Infantry Combat Vehicles: 500 units | Estimated value: ₹5,000+ Crore
(d) Armoured Recovery Vehicles: 230 units planned for induction and fleet support
